Isolating the systems that store, process or transmit account data from those that do not, so that the rest of the network falls outside PCI DSS scope. The Council uses segmentation, network segmentation and isolation for the same thing. The full entry is under Network Segmentation; this one carries the Council's own name for it and the caution that segmentation reduces scope only when 11.4.5's testing shows it holds.
