Validation
PCIComplianceHubLast updated
The process of confirming that a system, application, or process meets specific requirements, such as security controls or PCI DSS requirements. Validation helps ensure that security measures are effective and functioning as intended.
Applies to. In PCI DSS v4.0.1 validation has two senses. Compliance validation is the assessment that produces a ROC or SAQ and an Attestation of Compliance. Inside the standard the word is used for scoping validation: 12.5.2 requires every entity to document and confirm its PCI DSS scope at least once every 12 months and after any significant change, covering data flows, storage locations, system components, segmentation controls and third-party connections, and 12.5.2.1 shortens that to at least once every six months for service providers.
Limits. Scoping validation under 12.5.2 is the entity's own confirmation of scope, done before and apart from the assessor's work; it is not the assessment.
Related. Compliance, Scoping, Attestation of Compliance (AOC), RoC (Report on Compliance), SAQ (Self Assessment Questionnaire)
